Sir,

I am directed by Secretary Sir William Joynson-Hicks to

refer to your letter of the 9th instant (E & 0.4783/27), the

Home Office letter to the Foreign Office of the 12th instant,

and the Foreign Office letter No.F.6187/38/87 of the 19th

instant (of which it is understood a copy has been sent to your Department) in regard to dealings in opium by Mr.A.

Nemasee (or Nemazie), and I am to suggest that, if the Earl

of Birkenhead sees no objection, the Government of India should

be invited to communicate direct with the Authorities in Indo-

China in the sense suggested in the second paragraph of the

Home Office letter of the 12th instant to the Foreign Office.

A copy of this letter has been sent to the Foreign

Office.
